Frequently Asked Questions
We believe informed patients receive better care. Find the answers you need below.
Will my medical aid cover my tests and procedures?
Coverage varies depending on your medical aid society and plan. Please contact your medical aid provider for confirmation. You can also contact the relevant PSMI unit for information about medical aid cover for specific procedures.
What documents should I bring to my appointment?
Bring the written requisition or referral from your doctor, any appointment slips or patient preparation instructions, a list of your current medications (or the medications themselves), information about known allergies, and your medical aid card and national ID.
Do I need an appointment for radiology services?
It depends on the examination. Outpatient plain films such as chest X-rays or extremity studies (e.g., knees, hands) are performed on a walk-in basis. CT scans, interventional procedures, and some ultrasound examinations require prior appointments. Please inform the booking team of any allergies, special needs, or prior contrast reactions when scheduling.
What do I need when being admitted to a PSMI hospital?
You need a valid medical aid membership card, a national identity document (ID card, passport, or valid driver's licence) if your payment is through medical aid. Cash-paying patients will be informed of the required deposit upon arrival.
What medical services does PSMI offer?
